development – someday home plans

A confession: I don’t read or count sheep to fall asleep.

I draw my dream home in my head.

Walking it’s halls, ironing out glitches or refining details.

I imagine the kiddos playing, creating, studying…

It’s way too early, but a girl can dream can’t she?

Let me share some of my favorite finds:

Late Sheraton Headboard from Smith & Watson

While we’re dreaming…here is my dream oven/range by La Cornue:

I know I’m nuts.  I think about the kitchen all the time.  Just my opinion, but I feel like kitchens today are just so uninhabitable.  We live in our kitchen: eat, play, create, and chat.  In my dream home, I’ve placed the kitchen in the center of the home…where I believe ours should be.

In that kitchen, I hope to have more furniture than cupboards.  In fact, I’d like to have a couch in there.  I think a settee would work perfectly.  Perhaps one of these:

Though, I’d never upholster it in silk…at least not for the kitchen.  🙂

Ok.  Back to reality for me…  Meanwhile, what are your “someday home” dreams today?

  1. I’m glad I found your blog today through MMB. I dream about the same things…my house. I’m obsessed with decorating and spend a lot of time imagining what I would do with endless money!
Do you ever paint people’s houses for charge? I would be interested in that if so. My house doesn’t have the character that some of the houses you’ve painted have but I know we won’t live here forever and it would be a nice momento.

    • Hi Cheryl 🙂 Thanks for introducing me to your lovely blog…and temple chaser blog. I love painting any architecture. Some have had more charachter than others, but it’s the memories made within that I think really make each piece.

  2. I don’t so much dream about how all the pieces will come together, but I do dream about individual rooms, or amenities that I would like to have. I am with you 100% on the kitchen and having furniture. About 7 years ago, my friend put this big, overstuffed chair in her kitchen. At first I thought it was weird, then I totally fell in love with it!

    • Hi Amber 🙂 How is your new home btw? I’m so excited about your friend’s overstuffed chair…I’ve been thinking if size would make a difference…good for her! I’d love to see a photo.

  3. I love that you are planning your home…I will love to see it when it all comes to fruition. It will have so many amazing details.

I have had ideas for my dream home, but then we moved here and I’m learning to love what I have. It’s a great home, but so far from what David and I had planned as our dream home. This home has the function of what I wanted in our dreams, but not the character. That’s OK for now.

    • Lady Kerri, there is so much to say for function. In fact, I think until I understand exactly what I need and how to accomplish those needs {function} I can’t even think about the charachter and charm. 🙂 And when it comes down to it, I’d rathar have a happy family living in a functional home {totally what we have right now}. The only function missing is the area for a large garden…one day though right? And I am sooo inviting you and David and your darling kiddos to our someday home! Actually, you’re welcome anytime…perhaps one of these times you’re up visiting your MIL. I would love to get together one day soon…wonder if Amber will come up this Summer…:) xoxo
