delight – i voted today

I remember my parents voting when I was young.  I remember how excited they were to choose a candidate, support or reject policy.  They would vote down the street in one of the neighbor’s garages.  Sheets/blankets created private booths.  There was a certain excitement that even a young child could understand.  Sometimes before the vote, sometimes afterwards, I would have my parents tell me what/who they were voting for and why.

Years later, I voted today.  We had little to vote on, but it was still exciting.  I stood in a small line and even recognized some of the people voting.  The three ladies at the check-in table were wearing red, white, and blue.  I stated my name, received a credit card-like voting tool, and made my choices at the electronic voting booth.  No sheets or blankets to report.  I’ve voted here before, and the system is very easy.  Soon my ballot was printing and I was given an  “I voted” sticker to proudly wear.

A simple thing, but something that need not be taken for granted.  Even when only voting for three candidates…
